Music therapy

Music therapy is the use of music and sound for therapeutic purposes to accompany, relieve, improve or maintain the physical and/or emotional state of the patient.

It is a psycho-corporal practice that is part of the supportive care of integrative medicine. Already, ancient peoples glimpsed the fascinating impact of sound and musical effects on living beings. Nowadays, music therapy is the subject of numerous research works, particularly in the field of neurosciences, which allows it to take an increasingly important place in healthcare structures as a non-drug complementary therapy.

There are two possible approaches :

  • Receptive Music Therapy : Therapeutic work is based on listening  a sound program established by the practitioner after a preliminary interview to assess the needs and psychological resources of the patient.

This program takes into account age, personal and cultural specificity as well as environmental factors and, of course, the expectations of the person and the targeted therapeutic objectives.

  • Active Music Therapy : The therapeutic work is then centered on sound, instrumental and/or vocal production. It allows a non-verbal relational mode with, in particular, people in great psychomotor difficulty (multiple disabilities, brain damage, autism, etc.).

It will then be, according to the determined therapeutic objectives, a means of expression, of work on  body image, stereotypies, defense mechanisms…

Psychomusical Techniques

These are the different techniques and methods using music and/or sound, vibration, to serve a specific purpose, such as Relaxation by Musical Induction (RIM) or Sound Analgesia (AS).

They can be practiced either by a music therapist or by a practitioner trained and dedicated to a specific technique (Musical Sophrology, Sound Massage, AS)

The center  Musical Alain Carré

Alain Carré and CEMAC

Alain Carré created his Training Center in 1983 in Rennes. He develops all the training involving music, from the preparation for birth to that of death.

He has thus trained thousands of professionals across France and Europe, in the health, social, educational, medico-social sectors, etc.

  • to music pedagogy

  • musical activities for people with disabilities

  • to music therapy

Trained himself in music therapy in 1978-1979 at the International Center for Music Therapy in Paris, he is the leader of work in music/deafness, music/handicap, music therapy/Alzheimer's, and is successfully pursuing a State doctorate on on the brain, language and music.

While music therapy is interested in psychiatry and psychoanalysis, he develops all other fields of application through his research and work and thus opens up hospitals to music therapy.

The originality of the Training Center transferred in 2003 to Chambéry lies in the fact that in addition to scientific and humanistic training, the trainees receive practical training by being associated with the sessions that the Center provides each week to adolescent and adult children. able-bodied and disabled as well as patients. In such a way that, contrary to other training courses, the trainees do not need to seek training sites: all the cases are presented to them, which gives them exceptional skills at the end of their training.

While music therapy is still not recognized in France, Alain Carré received the National Order of Merit from the Ministry of Health in 2015, in recognition of the value of his work and his training. He also teaches at the Medical University of Padova (Italy), the only university in Europe to issue a European Diploma in Music Therapy.

A tireless researcher, he publishes many articles and books in French and Italian, and transmits this energy of research and innovation to the trainees. Always go further than what exists today.
